After touching up your complexion (you can read my guide on that here!), with a few simple tweaks you can take your look from day to night. These steps are perfect for going from the office to drinks, and because there are few products required, you can keep them at your desk or in your bag for on-the-go!
& for my brides, don't be afraid to keep these tips at hand if you're looking to amp up your day look without the hassle of carrying a full makeup bag on your wedding day! Now onto the steps..
Now if you're anything like me, you hit snooze three times & skipped lining in the AM! No problem, a quick swipe of a blendable but waterproof eyeliner is all you need (I love Urban Decay's 24/7 Pencils or Marc Jacob's Highliners for this purpose). Dot it in on your upper & lower lash line (but just the outer halves) for an easy cat eye effect, without having to worry about the wing. Next, smudge your dots to create smokey liner with your finger, a q-tip, or my favourite, a smudge brush & voila, you're done! Great colours to try are bronze, dark green, copper, and pewter grey for a refreshing change from the predictable & sometimes harsh black. Lastly & for bonus points, give your lashes a curl (no mascara necessary) for a quick lift!
Even the longest wearing blushes will have faded by dark. Powders are easiest for reapplication & you can even get away with using the brush they come with in a pinch. Don't be afraid to amp up your blush for night & go for a brick red, plum, or dark rose/nude! Even the palest of complexions can get away with these if applied sparingly. One technique I love using with these deeper colours is to "drape" them up your cheekbone & slightly onto your temple (Way Bandy style) for a chiselled & grown up approach to blush. Some of my favourite brands include: Marc Jacobs, Urban Decay & Cargo Cosmetics, though I'm not one to discriminate when it comes to blush!
3) Lip Colour
Perhaps the most important step! The right lip colour can literally wake up your whole face, even if your day started well before dawn. For a girl's night out, don't be afraid to try something out of your comfort zone. Go for those vibrant hot pinks, fiery corals, or deep blackberries. Going on a date? Opt for a classic red, rosy-nude, or light pink! & for my brides, a dark red, mauve or raspberry is always a safe bet. Whatever you do, have lip balm on hand to apply & blot off before your colour to avoid that uncomfortable dry texture. In terms of lip products, I favour lip liners (Essence & Urban Decay are my favourites) or lip crayons (like Bite Beauty's), for fuss-free & easy application. Blot & reapply for extra longevity!
& that's it! You're set for where the night may take you. Just don't forget to take it all off before you hit your pillow!
