Going Cruelty-Free: A How-To Guide!

Going cruelty-free can seem daunting, I know! But everyone goes through the exact same transition, so at least you know you're not alone. If you start small, you'll also lessen the chance of feeling overwhelmed & quitting all together. Every little bit helps, so don't be discouraged by an all or nothing approach, as it rarely works for anyone!

I think this is an often overlooked (but vital) step towards going cruelty-free. You'll be less overwhelmed & more focused if you can narrow your collection down to only the products you love & use. De-cluttering doesn't mean binning every product you have that isn't cruelty-free either! If you use a product, keep it. Products you don't use can be given to friends, family, or even local shelters. The only products that should be trashed are those which have gone off.

Start a project pan with 10 products that aren't cruelty-free. If you lack the motivation or feel you won't be able to stick to this, make sure to choose products which are almost empty. You can include anything from shampoo to nail polish to toothpaste in this challenge. The rules of the game are: don't purchase anything new until all 10 products are used up (unless of course you run out of something) & that's it! It's a great way to make room for products that are cruelty-free in your collection.

This one's ridiculously simple. When you run out of a product, replace it with one that's cruelty-free! Much easier to do than overhauling your entire collection at once. The next two steps simplify this even further by helping you navigate the cruelty-free from the not.

I just discovered Cruelty-Cutter & was previously using Leaping Bunny, though I know there are quite a few more out there! Needless to say, apps are a lifesaver. It'll soon enough become second nature to check if a product's cruelty-free or not & eventually you won't even have to check, you'll just know!

Logical Harmony, Cruelty-Free Kitty & Ethical Elephant are always my go-tos because they're updated on the regular.

I'll link my favourite guides down below:

& that's it.. You'll be cruelty-free in no time! The important thing is not to stress about getting there already. You have more power in your wallet than you realize, so use it for the better! & if you're ever unsure if a brand is cruelty-free or not, don't hesitate to reach out to them. They'll happily get back to you (if they're cruelty-free), or most likely beat around the bush if they aren't.
